Article: You Haven’t Gone Backwards

You Haven’t Gone Backwards

You Haven’t Gone Backwards

Dear Evolving Reader,

There is a point in your growth where boundaries stop being about protecting yourself from what is unhealthy for you and start becoming about protecting what you are building. Your time, your energy, your relationships, your peace and ultimately, your future.

We talk so much about doing our inner work and understanding that our outer world is a reflection of our internal one. This is the deep work we do with our clients, and why they go on to have such phenomenal results during their time with this. As a result of this work, it means we outgrow the stands we once had for our lives.

The more you grow, the more important your boundaries become. It has been an increasingly present lesson for me in recent months. As I meditated on it, I realised this was a lesson I had been learning all along through my mum, Samara. I had watched her embody resilience in this area of life, and I began to see how much richness that had created in our lives: a richness that simply could not have existed without strong boundaries.

I was reminded of this when I made the difficult decision to step away from a long-standing friendship not long ago. There was real sadness in that decision, but also a deep sense of clarity: sometimes growth asks us to honour what we have learnt, even when doing so means releasing something that once mattered deeply.

Boundaries aren't about becoming cold or shutting people out. They are about understanding that everything you allow into your life has an impact on what you are able to create within it. Asking yourself, “Is this aligned with the life I am creating?”

This has come into my focus lately. It made me think about how often we assume that once we've learnt something, we may never encounter it again… That isn't how growth works. Lessons return because there are deeper layers to them. You may have learnt to value yourself or protect yourself, and later be asked to embody that value in a deeper way.

The lesson may look familiar, but you are not.

We can easily assume that if an old pattern appears again, we haven't healed or learnt it properly. But what if you haven't gone backwards? What if you're being invited to meet the same lesson from a higher level of awareness?

We can understand something intellectually long before we embody it. This is the space between knowing and becoming. Expansion isn't simply about adding more to your life. It is about becoming someone who can hold more without reverting to the patterns that created your previous reality.

The next level of your life will ask something different of you. Sometimes, something familiar starts to feel unfamiliar. The things you once tolerated begin to feel heavy. Sometimes, it is simply evidence that you have grown. This is why boundaries are so important to expansion. They bring your external life into alignment with the internal shift that has already taken place.

Your current reality was created by an old version of you. If you want a new reality, something within you has to change. That change may look like a boundary, releasing a long-standing relationship, having a conversation you've been avoiding, or no longer making yourself available to things that pull you away from the person you are becoming.

An essential part of the shift is simply recognising the pattern, because you cannot consciously change something you are still unconsciously repeating. This is why the return of a lesson can be a beautiful sign of expansion. It gives you another opportunity to see what you couldn't see before and recognise what is still operating beneath the surface. Once you see it, you have a choice. You can continue recreating what is familiar, or begin choosing from the version of yourself who is creating something new.

This is the work we will be exploring together at Expansion LIVE in London. Not simply how to set bigger goals, but what is happening beneath the surface that may be influencing the reality you are creating. Crafting actual change so you leave the day a morning aligned version to meet with your goals.

The future version of you doesn't just think differently. They choose differently and hold higher standards for their life. Stepping into that version of yourself sometimes looks like revisiting a lesson you thought you had already learnt. This is not a sign of failure. It is a sign that you are ready to take the lesson deeper.

That is what expansion really is: not leaving every old lesson behind, but integrating them so deeply that they become part of the person capable of creating what comes next.
