Expand or Shrink
Dear Evolving Reader,
A short while ago life presented to me a question we should all be asking daily...
I was sitting around a table with a group of people when I had a moment of clarity. The conversation unfolding around me wasn't at all in alignment with who I'm becoming or the life I'm creating. While I was sat there, I thought, I'd genuinely rather be at home working than continue listening to this. My growth was more important than the conversation that was being had. Naturally, I found myself asking whether I was going to continue tolerating something that wasn't aligned, or do something about it. So I got up and left!
What struck me afterwards wasn't the conversation itself. It was the realisation that life is constantly presenting us with moments like this. Not grand, dramatic turning points. Ordinary moments disguised as choices. Moments gifted to us, where we are given the opportunity to reinforce the life we want through our choice... to expand or not. To stay in what is familiar and shrink or leave what we know and expand. Most people believe their lives change through major decisions. A new job, relationship or breakthrough in their business. I have become increasingly proven that life is built in a different way entirely.
It's built through the accumulation of seemingly small decisions. The standards you hold yourself to, what you tolerate, what you repeatedly return to, and what you're willing to walk away from all shape the trajectory of your life far more than most people realise. Every one of these moments is shaping an identity. Every decision is casting a vote for the person you are becoming! This is why I've found one question so useful: Will this expand me, or will it cause me to shrink?
When life feels complicated, this question cuts through the noise. When you're caught between comfort and growth. When you're tempted to settle for less than what you know you're capable of. The answer is usually obvious. The challenge is having the courage to act on it. What makes this question powerful is that expansion rarely feels the way we expect it to. We imagine growth will feel exciting, energising and full of momentum. Sometimes it does. More often, it feels like loss. It feels like outgrowing people, environments, conversations and ways of being that once felt familiar.
It is standing between two versions of yourself: you are no longer who you were, but not yet fully who you're becoming. That space can feel uncomfortable and lonely. Yet discomfort isn't a sign you're moving in the wrong direction. It's evidence that you're stretching beyond the limits of the life you've known so far. The defining moments of our lives are rarely hidden inside breakthroughs. They're hidden inside the seemingly insignificant decisions we make every day. The moments where nobody is watching. The moments that don't feel important enough to matter.
Yet those are often the exact moments that determine the direction of our lives. Every time you choose courage over comfort, alignment over familiarity, or growth over convenience, you reinforce the identity of the person you're becoming. It's a principle we return to often at Samara Universe: transformation is rarely the result of one defining moment, but the accumulation of conscious choices.
It's also why Inner Wealth episodes are intentionally short. The greatest truths are rarely complex. They are often remarkably simple, yet difficult to live. My role is not to complicate them further, but to make them impossible to ignore. Inner Wealth is not to add to the noise; it's to distil years of lessons, mistakes and hard-earned wisdom into something simple enough to act on immediately. The person you become is not determined by what you say you want. It's determined by what you repeatedly choose. Consciously living with this question in the back of our minds allows us to cross-reference how badly we want the life we say we want with the actions we take each day.
People easily fall back into old ways because self-mastery can become complicated and challenging. But when we break it down into simple questions, such as expand or shrink, it allows us to create forward movement every day and simplify what can otherwise become overwhelming.
It's why at Samara Universe we use such a methodical process to not only ensure client results but also create a system that is easily digestible to follow. It's also why Inner Wealth episodes are intentionally short: to help people evolve and transform without unnecessary complexity. The quality of our lives is rarely determined by what we know. It's determined by what we repeatedly choose.
So this week, as life presents you with its ordinary moments, I invite you to return to the ultimate question: Will this expand my life, or will it shrink it? Sit with the answer. Your future is being built in it.
